Jen Lush caught our attention with her new single, Lovers Parting, Dawn. The song, based on a poem by Australian poet Kevin Brophy, is a rollercoaster of emotions that touch on the human conditions of love, loss and longing. Jen Lush’s gorgeous vocals add a tinge of heartbreak and lamenting the loss of a loved one to the poem, written by Brophy in 2019.
Coming off the back of her 2021 album, Let Loose the Beating Birds, this single transforms from a light, melancholic folk rock piece to a distorted, almost grunge esque jam near the 3 minute mark. Jen Lush’s vocals are expressive and have a warm timbre to them. The vocal work she does in this song can draw to mind Alanis Morrissette, while the production takes cues from the music of Phoebe Bridgers.
