HOUSEPLaNTS – ELEPHANT

The retro pop movement is in need of a facelift. Mainstream pop has reeled its ugly head, with The Weeknd and Dua Lipa moving in on the action. That’s okay, if you’re in need of a true retro revival, look no further than HOUSEPLaNTS. We’re obsessed with their new single ELEPHANT. It has the charm of indie icons like Phosphorescent and (early) Arcade Fire. They take a hint of familiar nostalgia and inject it with their own youthful touch. With a vocal that screams with energy and authenticity, one dose of ELEPHANT is all you need to convert to a believer.

This is the retro feel drawn from the histories of Kate Bush and The Waterboys. A combination of post punk and new wave aesthetic. Its layered production is curious, otherworldly exotic sounds. The vocal treatment, with gated effects and classic echo, sounds custom tailored to respond to the singers emphatic vocal lifts. Sealing the deal with a strong lyrical design, its a suitable tribute to the true king of the jungle.
