“With lyrics like “pay all your bills, stay off the pills, try not to die” the song offers sound advice and poignant observations on the shared struggles of day to day living”
Dig the soulful, DIY vibes heard in “Heavy” the latest from Australia’s Molly Jane. Beginning with a laidback bass and drum groove akin to Van Morrison’s “Into The Mystic”, it sets the tone for the subtle neo-soul and R&B flavor found throughout the track. Enter Jane’s spellbinding vocal performance. The sultry delivery, attitude and phrasing are executed beautifully and evolve to a dreamy, lush, anthemic group chorus by the end. Got to “give the drummer some” as well, incredibly tasteful and in the pocket, while the Motown-inspired guitar is icing on the cake.
“Try Not To Die” the new single from Andy Frasco & the U.N. dons traces of Vampire Weekend and Zac Brown Band and is offered as “a cheeky, heartfelt anthem that celebrates life’s messiness”. With lyrics like “pay all your bills, stay off the pills, try not to die” the song offers sound advice and poignant observations on the shared struggles of day to day living. Set to an upbeat southern-fueled instrumental, you may find yourself dancing, while also questioning your life’s decisions. Check out the Wes Anderson-tinged music/lyric video, which as far as lyric videos go, is pretty darn cool.
Fans of My Morning Jacket, MF Doom, and MGMT will enjoy the sounds of Animal Scream in their new single “A Tiny Love”. The Pittsburgh, PA based trio describes their style as Doom Pop, that evokes a sound design approach; matching cinema noir with pop rock psychedelia. With an old school R&B styled groove, layered by lush synth patches and speaker shredding fuzz guitars a la Strand of Oaks, it certainly creates a dark cinematic vibe. Released through American Heritage Records, “A Tiny Love” sounds like a dark, cinematic disco.
