Mara Sol is entrancing on her recent single Bone Dry. Somewhere between indie folk and contemporary singer songwriter, Bone Dry is vaguely familiar but refreshingly new. In the words of Rick Rubin, “Familiar is good.”
Sol wears her influences but doesn’t lean into them more than she needs to. Drawing from artists like James Taylor, Fleetwood Mac, Sarah McLachlan and Imogen Heap, her songwriting comes from her past experiences and the lessons learned along the way. We also hear evidence of Coldplay in the singles piano first design and collective polished elegence. The genuine appeal is all her, and she lends a lot of herself to the singles vulnerable narrative.
Wonderfully produced with progressive dramatic flare, Bone Dry has a trademark hook. The chorus delivers, offering an accessible moment to hold on to. Drawing influences from artists like James Taylor, Fleetwood Mac, Sarah McLachlan and Imogen Heap, her songwriting comes from her past experiences and the lessons learned along the way.
