Intimate and up tempo aren’t two descriptors that we usually pair together on this blog, but “Pale & White” breaks the pattern. This new lo-fi, alt-pop single by humming people is characterized by frenetic rhythms, rich vocal layers, and diverse ambient tones. We hear a little Portishead influence, but there’s plenty going on here that we can’t, necessarily, draw comparisons to. It’s a fresh and confident sound. It’s humming people.
Indie R&B fans will love this new single by Miller Blue! “suicide doors” is a song of contrast. The lyrics communicate a heavy and introspective message, but they’re delivered through a light and hopeful instrumental vessel. Songs like this remind us that, even in dark moments, beauty can shine through in the form of art.
We hear a unique mix of Leon Bridges and Ed Sheeran.
Anticipation for Unravel Time, the forthcoming album by Viic Woods, grows with the release of this new single. “When, Now” is indie rock gold. The noisy guitars and punchy percussion give the song an edge that is softened by lithe, resonant vocals. And the overall effect is one of authenticity and balance. Fans of artists like Sharon Van Etten and Julia Jacklin will love it.
