Trails and Ways is back! “Patiently” arrives after a nine year hiatus and demonstrates a refreshed and refined indie rock sound. The groove feels incredibly natural, the vocals sound grainy and mellow, and the atmospheric tones sit perfectly in the mix. We think this one would fit well on a playlist with artists like Foster the People and Vacations.
Summer may be over, but that doesn’t mean you have to stop adding to your beach playlists! “Golden Summer” is the title track off the newest EP by O Mateus, and this song is a nostalgic trip. The musical style revives that of artists like Santo & Johnny of “Sleep Walk” fame, giving the song a dreamy and vintage mood that is then modernized by the lofi production. And we think fans of The Beach Boys will love the vocal harmonies!
Wilco fans will love this inventive new alt rock single by Cotton Caves. “Afraid” mixes acoustic tones with fuzzy electronics to achieve an uninhibited sound. The time signature is imperfect-yet-groovy, and the whispery vocals give the song an inviting warmth. What’s most exciting about it, however, is its constant development. This is a song that goes from point A to point Z and we listeners find ourselves pleased with every twist along the way.
“Travel Light,” the third single from the highly anticipated album by BÜNNI, sounds–to us–a little like MGMT put through a lofi filter. By this, we mean that it has melodic and rhythmic catchiness but is presented in an artistically obscure vessel. There’s a brightness to it, but a dirty film over that brightness. And this makes for a unique indie pop sound. Check it out now!
