Low Girl continues to build momentum toward the release of their debut album with this indie pop single, “Overgrown.” The instrumentation and vocals complement each other so well in this song: both are defined by a soft and inviting quality. And we love the transition from the verse groove to the dance beat in the choruses. Fans of bands like Alvvays and beabadoobee should check it out!
We love what we hear in, “Brawl,” the title track on Altai’s newest EP. This song is bittersweet, indie rock gold. We say “bittersweet” because the instrumentation sounds dark and gritty while the progression and melodies sound bright and warm. In the middle of this bittersweetness fall the intuitive vocal layers, and they’re our favorite element of the song. There’s a good balance between modernity and 80s flair in this song, so we think fans of Sharon Van Etten and The Cure alike should check it out!
Indie fans with a pop sensibility will love this new single by Queen Anne. “Lexi Loves Me” is primarily characterized by an acoustic guitar and clean vocals, but the memorable choruses include arrays of atmospheric tones. There’s a gripping theatricality to the song and, because of this, we think fans of Miley Cyrus and/or Orville Peck will love it.
The word “poetry” is used far too often to describe music and other things that aren’t actually poetic, but “Tetris (feat. Kate Ireland)” by Humane the Moon is undeniably poetic in the sense that it has a strong dedication to language. The dark, musical backdrop sits dependably in the mix and permits the vocalists to rap without restraint. The resulting song is rhythmic and delightful, and we recommend it for fans of Sleaford Mods or Fontaines D.C.
