Indie Underrated – EESE, FLEECE, Finn O’Sullivan

Indietronica duo EESE is hot with the release of their newest single, “On Fire.” This song is an atmospheric, danceable spell. Indietronica duo EESE is hot with the release of their newest single, “On Fire.” This song is an atmospheric, danceable spell. The rhythm is instinctive and natural, the digital tones are tastefully interspersed, and the revolving vocal melody is incredibly catchy. We think this one fits somewhere on the genre spectrum between artists like Foals and Flume.

We love what we hear in “How Far Would You Go,” the newest indie pop single from FLEECE. This song kicks off with a steady, uptempo, oscillating rhythm section and quickly works into a fuller arrangement with resonant guitar tones and clean, memorable vocal melodies. What’s especially impressive about the track is its development; this is a song that really blossoms in intensity from beginning to end. We think it sounds like a modern expansion on the style of music historically played by bands like The Strokes.

Finn O’Sullivan just released a new EP called dog days, and the first track is a banger! “cherry pop rocks” is a colorful, indie pop landscape. The instrumental arrangement is spare but effective, complete with lofi percussion and some guitars, and this backdrop leaves plenty of room for the song’s highlights to shine. These highlights are, of course, O’Sullivan’s playful vocal melodies and her vivid, Americana-inspired lyrics. We definitely hear Taylor Swift’s influence in music like this, but with an added grit in the production style.
