Leave it to CATSINGTON to compose a sonically strange creation with a totally sincere message: this new single, “enough is enough” is an indie, avant-garde abstraction. It mixes digital and analog tones with unconventional rhythms to make a thoughtful statement about self-worth. The song’s lyrics are rather repetitive, and this speaks well to the subject matter of obsessive self-criticism. Hopefully we can all honor our authentic selves as truly as CATSINGTON does through their unique music. We recommend it for fans of artists like LCD Soundsystem.
Ava Valianti is an indie pop artist who continues to impress. This new single, “Buttercups,” is a tender and cinematic experience. It starts with a subdued acoustic arrangement and flourishes into a powerful anthem before bringing everything home with a smooth denouement. The arc is dramatic, and Valianti puts her adaptable vocal talents on display throughout. We think fans of artists like Chappell Roan and Sabrina Carpenter should love it.
KAY BRETTE is crashing onto the scene with the release of her debut single, “Coca Cola.” This song is an unpredictable pop rock bop! The verses are razor sharp and loaded with attitude while the choruses are soft and buoyant. The vocal style reminds us of Angie McMahon and the versatile instrumental arrangement actually sounds a little reminiscent of ABBA. We dig this track, and we can’t wait to hear what else KAY BRETTE has in store.
We love what we hear in “Slow Burn,” the newest single from Snorkeler. This song is a noisy, slacker-inspired indie rock jam. It’s primarily characterized by loud guitars and a chill rhythm. The highlight for us, however, is the incredible vocal range on display. There are a handful of really powerful vocal moments in this song, and that’s pretty unique for this style of indie rock music. We recommend it for fans of bands like Djo or alt-J.
This new single by SPF4K, “Hearts on Fire,” is a catchy, indietronica celebration. Its frantic rhythm is surprisingly groovy, and this groove serves as a great backdrop for the song’s pleasant, digital melodies and crowded, resonant vocal layers. The chorus is especially clear, expressive, and unrestrained. We think this one is a sure thing for fans of bands like MGMT or Passion Pit.
