Olive Bernard finds fresh energy in the remix for her single False Front. Tasheff’s Miami remix has a retro pop feel. Its a throwback to the movie Drive and bands like College. That movement helped to launch the Synthwave movement, though we would call that music more retro wave. The False Front remix embraces that kind of retro pop nostalgic bliss, retaining an organic essence while adhering to some electro standards. No matter how you swing it, Olive Bernard scores a home run. She’s entrancing.
We adore the arrangement at the root of Moss, the new single from Margot and the Midnight Tenants. How you play the instrument and the sounds used are so important to creating a musical world. Margot and those pesky Tenants do it so well. The singer herself is absolutely otherworldly, embracing Bjorks most serene personality, paying homage to the iconic Astrid Gilberto. Just sing the song and be yourself. Its a simple and elegant performance you can’t get enough of.
Wolfberg brings cool contrast to his new single I Am The Highway. It starts with the cover art, a whirlwind of color and crisis as the roaming troubadour sees the tornado’s existential end in sight. The song itself has a magnetic dreamy underlayer, while the singer embraces the lowest realm of his tenor pensively. Stylistically we hear a touch of Coldplay mixed with some modern indie pop flavor. Find your truth, find your highway.
Rounds chronicle a new pope with unique fervor. This indie rock vibe finds the cinematic feeling lost on hoards of adoring onlookers. From the outside looking in Rounds finds dark drama in this treasured tradition. Perhaps its in the history of this conflicted position, but dressing this in a psych post rock package feels dooming. Stylistically we hear the influence of Muse and Radiohead, but not a glimmer of the pontious. This is its own thing.
