Indie Underrated – Anaïs & The Hoops, dkTr, Mikey Demilio, Verboten

We feel inspired by “Stick To The Script,” the reassuring new indie-pop single from Anaïs & The Hoops. This song is anchored by a reliable percussion track, supported by atmospheric string tones, and elevated by some incredibly tight vocal layers. Catchy melodies are tough to come by, but Anaïs has made a real habit out of accessing them in her music with The Hoops. We think this song fits well in a category with artists like Mitski and beabadoobee.

can’t say goodbye,” is a shimmering new lofi single by indie rock’s dkTr. This song’s mellow percussion, deep bassline, and soft guitar tones give it a perfectly cozy vibe; like settling under a warm blanket in a cool room. We think fans of artists like Mac DeMarco and/or Eyedress should like it.

Mikey Demilio is at it again with the release of Billionaires Club, and one of our favorite songs on the new indie rock record is “Wonderland.” The groovy verses are complemented well by the noisy choruses and the whole song is tied together perfectly by Demilio’s signature vocal style. Overall, it’s a loose and gritty rock experience. We recommend it for fans of bands like alt-J.

We love what we hear in “Eveline,” the steady new indie pop track on Verboten‘s latest album Life Expectancy. This song is complete with memorable guitar melodies, fragile vocals, and unsuspecting chord changes that keep the listener engaged from beginning to end. We love the incorporation of the Motown groove in the short pre-choruses, and we commend Verboten for boldly creating within the tradition of pop rock legends like The Beatles and Elliott Smith. Be sure to give the whole album a listen!
