“So Kind” is the new, debut single from Ula and this song is a refreshing indie-pop abstraction! Ula mixes synth tones, flexible vocals, and playful rhythms with unpredictable-yet-catchy melodies to create a sonic display that appears uniquely hers. We love when artists embrace unconventional muses to create bold work. (St. Vincent is another that comes to mind.) Ula is certainly one of those artists and we’ll be keeping an eye out for the release of her upcoming EP!
Joe Hodgson is back with the release of his newest album, Fields of Redemption, and “You I Think Of” is one of our favorites on the record. This song is an organic, instrumental-fusion masterpiece. It’s supported by a steady rhythm section and atmospheric strings, but the lead guitar is the star of the show. Hodgson’s playing is incredibly voicey, and the control he has over his voice is such that it seems he’s able to move instinctively from one natural melody to the next. We think fans of Joe Satriani’s lither work will love this song in particular. Be sure to check out the full album now!
“So Cool” is the musty new indie-rock single from Atlanta-based artist Ryan O’Connell. The song is characterized by strummy electric guitars, deep vocals, and a rhythmic looseness that contributes incredibly well to its overall slacker-rock vibe. We hear a lot of Neil Young influence in the main riff, but we think the song would fit best on a playlist with artists like Kurt Vile and/or Pavement. It’s alluringly tattered; it is “So Cool.”
