“Cheat Codes” is one of our favorite songs on J.J. Chamberlain‘s new album, A Year With the Ghosts. This track is a dynamic alt-rock spectacle. At one moment it features a screaming, shoegaze-inspired guitar. At the next, a raw and exposed vocal display. What remains consistent throughout both the vulnerable and vigorous moments is an impassioned boldness that gives the song an undeniable authenticity. We think fans of artists like Biffy Clyro should find plenty to love in it.
“Be Free” is the inspiring new indie-folk single from singer-songwriter Sam Garrett. This song is mainly characterized by a flexible, fingerstyle guitar track, a melodic and poignant vocal arrangement, and an atmospheric steel guitar performance. Garrett honors folk tradition by putting a clear and meaningful lyrical composition right at the center, and he innovates within the genre by constantly expanding the instrumental arrangement as the song progresses. “Be Free” even features some bird chirps in support of its message. Overall, it’s a peaceful and spiritually nourishing trip. We think it fits somewhere near a halfway point between Hozier and Bob Marley.
“So Far So Good (feat. BUGS)” is the second single released in anticipation of Sky Adler‘s upcoming album, Good Grief. This song is an electro-pop blanket that wraps its full and expansive instrumental arrangement around listeners. Included in said arrangement are ambient synth tones, a pulsing bass line, deep vocals, and a variety of colorful digital melodies. Overall, the song has a pleasant and reliable vibe that we think fans of artists like Glass Animals and/or Oliver Tree will love.
