Martina and the Moons’ new track “Baby Turtle” feels like it belongs in the final scenes of a movie. The cinematic production is not overbearing, but it feels ambitious and progressive. The all-female band’s new song comprises various melodies and guitar licks on top of smooth percussion that is just enough to lend itself to the energy of the track.
Lead singer Martina Moon is backed by guitarist Sarah Morgan, bassist Aisling Stephens McGowan, and drummer Zahira Ellis. Martina Moon’s vocals float along with the production, reaching both great melodic extents and dynamic ranges. The percussion never becomes dominant, which helps Moon remain in the perfect pocket and continue to shine.
“Being Bad,” the new single from Duz Mancini, is out now. With subtle hints of funk and soul sprinkled throughout, the track maintains a dreamy vibe from beginning to end. “Being Bad” feels like Thundercat meets Mac DeMarco, with the groovy drums and bassline sounding like something from Thundercat’s Drunk and melodies and vocals comparable to songs like Mac DeMarco’s “Heart to Heart.”
The psychedelic guitars and synths spread across the track begin to take over after each chorus, and I feel completely enwrapped in the pleasant dreamlike landscape Mancini develops through this instrumentation. He does a great job making sure his vocals correlate with this energy as well, with subtle effects giving them an atmospheric energy that fits the vibe perfectly.
Mindy Gledhill’s “Prismatic” has been released, and the track is sounding beautiful. The track’s reverberated drums and vocals help build a surreal energy that feels both grand and infinite; it’s as if I’m hearing the track in outer space. With vocal tendencies redolent of Alternative Pop star BENEE, and a production style that I feel takes after artists like Kevin Parker of Tame Impala, Gledhill has fashioned her own specific sound.
This distinctiveness is key in helping Gledhill pave her own lane and stick out amongst her contemporaries. Her unique blend of stylistic approaches paints her as a one of one artist. “Prismatic” is the new refreshing sound we didn’t know we needed in music, and I can’t wait for more of it.
Wombo’s new song “Danger in Fives” is streaming now. The band’s new song features a moody Rock instrumental that backs lead singer Sydney Chadwick’s infectious vocals. Chadwick’s catchy vocal licks are dampened with effects that coat the track in an atmospheric daze. “Danger in Fives” is emotional, dreamy, and pleasantly dreary all at once, curating a vibe unlike any other.
Guitarist Cameron Lowe’s call and response guitar solos emphasize the ominous feeling of the song, and drummer Joel Taylor provides the perfect rhythmic support to keep the track moving forward. The Kentucky-based band has wonderful chemistry throughout the entire track. The way they all have the same style of playing feels like they’re all going for the same thing, which makes it easy to mistake them for a one-person band. This level of chemistry and relationship is exactly what’s needed to assemble a song like this.
