getting bad again,” is the cozy new indie-pop single from Sydney-based singer-songwriter St. South. Lyrically, the song walks a line between assurance and anxiety. It’s affirming in one moment and critical in the next, and these neurotic shifts make us feel as if the music serves as a form of tonic for the speaker. The instrumentals are lo-fi, airy, and reliable. Overall, it feels like a much needed nap; restorative but only for a time.

We’re impressed by St. South’s ability to capture such a nuanced sensation in her art, and we recommend this one for fans of Clairo and/or Orion Sun.

Smithereens,” the newest single from indie rocker Brent de la Cruz, is a jam. The song is characterized by a downbeat rhythm, spacious vocal layering, and tasty guitar licks. It’s incredibly full, but impressively restrained. Each instrumental track is essential and committed to its role in support of the overall song, and the result is a really well-balanced production. There’s some R&B flair to it that reminds us of artists like Cautious Clay.

NB: The song has a killer video to match.

Indie-pop songsmith B. Hawksley recently released an EP titled I’ll Be Your Mirror and “Stick Around” is one of our favorite songs on it. This song paints the portrait of an individual who tends toward overthinking but finally finds comfort in another person. The instrumental arrangement is steady and patient, and the structure builds to a chorus that’s full of relief. The vocal tone is so pure, and the guitar work is beautifully subdued. We have a feeling that B. Hawksley is one artist who is here to stick around.
