“You’ll be howling away to this one after first listen…”
Texas native Raging Bunch’s new single “The Coolest” opens with a characteristic wolf howl that becomes the melodic focal point for the rest of the song. Pretty cool. The entire song is incredibly catchy, with nostalgic electric guitars echoing the spirit of the 80s coupled with anthemic chorus hooks and a dance-friendly groove. You’ll be howling away to this one after first listen.
“Cinnamon” is the first release from the band PaidTimeOff (PTO), and represents the partnership of two Nashville writers Fraser Watt and Tate Gardner, who left the world of commercial writing to pursue their own sound. The accessible Pharrell inspired beat, easy flowing groove and infectious melodies keep your ears drawn in. It is a fine example of solid songwriting combined with a myriad of new and vintage inspired sounds.
Really digging the lo-fi, throwback vibes in “Broken Baby” the newest from Canadian artist Yawn. Taking on a more mellow approach at the start, the song seemingly gets kicked into high-gear around the 0:45 mark. Very cool that the change is somewhat abrupt, giving a slight sense of urgency. Thematically the lyrics are quite dark, but the whimsical and surprising nature of the instrumentals provide a brevity and nod to classics like Cyndi Lauper’s “Time After Time”.
“Solace” the new single from Jomch, sounds almost like a J.Dilla inspired folk song, in that the instrumentals almost sound arhythmic in a way that just works. A delicate ukulele melody sits atop a series of lo-fi, trap beats and sporadic synthesizers. The vocals add a pop shimmer with tinges of neo-soul and R&B vibes.
