Another wonderful track from the multi-talented Margaret Cho. Her new single “Stevie” delivers a similar alt-pop gusto as “Lucky Gift”, which we featured here a few months back. Quite possibly a nod to Stevie Nicks with its harmonically rich backing vocals and repetitious lyrics, bearing melodic resemblance to moments in “Rumours”. The drums effortlessly drive the track in a slow, steady rolling fashion, while the horns act like a paintbrush in providing an old school R&B feel.

Australian duo Trudy Bennett and Jarrin Borg, better known as Lucille Two have a new single called “Pixels” detailing the finer points connecting human beings with emerging technology. Soaked in psychedelic influence, with tinges of power pop and synth pop, the track opens with a quirky harmonized guitar line that echoes early Steely Dan. The dreamy, drifting vocals and playful instrumentals give a modern twist on a retro vibe.

New Zealand’s Nik Brinkman has released “Heavy World” off his second album “World Within”, released in February 2025. The opening drum fill, seemingly nicked from “Ain’t Too Proud To Beg” gives way to an easy flowing groove, embellished by lush guitars and impressionable melodies. With tinges of Beach House, Foster The People, and 60s BritPop this anthemic, folky, power pop ballad will appease fans across generational lines.
