Another magnificent, cinematic and anthemic track from Robert Ascroft, with a marvelous vocal performance from Ora Cogan on the song “Dorian Gray”. Starting out with a driving, pulsing drum pattern, surrounded by a lush array of droning guitars, staccato strings, and frighteningly angelic vocal melodies, the song never loses footing. The music video is uniquely stunning visually and metaphorically. Definitely worth the watch. However if you have a phobia of clowns, I’d advise against it.

Early August Rain”, the new single from Canadian artist Brock Geiger, puts a unique twist on the conventional LA folk song. Incorporating “non-traditional” sounds like warped synth patches, reversed loops, overdriven-fuzzy guitars and cavernous drums. Recorded at the legendary Sound City studios in LA, it sounds like a brilliant mixture of ambience and calamity.

Go ahead and try to listen to “Toxic Romantic” from LA musician/designer Duckwrth just once.  The infectious, crunchy grooves and catchy melodies venture into a camp similar to Genesis Owusu or Bartees Strange, but the vocal delivery sets it apart. The music video is the perfect companion piece, capturing the song’s vibrant energy. Beautifully shot somewhere in the desert, it utilizes quick cuts and zooms similar to the action movies of the 1970s, while also bearing a resemblance to the infamous music video from The Prodigy.
