One Man Frog Band-I’m Fine, Okay

Fan of Mac Demarco and Men I Trust will love One Man Frog Band’s new single, I’m Fine Okay. The debut single from the singer and producer William Popp, his rich, croaking (no pun intended) baritone matches with the soft synth organs well. His lyrics are bittersweet and wallowing, as he sings about dealing with prior pain. A beautiful track that has us waiting on when he’ll release next.

Joe Sensible-Withered

Continuing in the vein of emotional indie ballads, Joe Sensible’s penchant for acoustic tearjerkers is explored on Withered. The Scottish singer and guitarist’s musical prowess for delivering dreary, emotional folk inspired indie pop is evident on this new song, the lead single to his sophomore album due this year. This song follows up on his debut album, written between the ages of 17-21. A more modern yet dark take on the kind of soft 70s folk from artists like Jim Croce and Loggins and Messina, as well as proto-indie from artists like Nick Drake and Bon Iver.

RHNO-Epoch

Our final track comes from the Brooklyn based alternative pop duo RHNO. The decade long musical collaboration of two friends finds them blending genres and sounds in a creative and compelling way, combining trip hop production with blaring distortion and trippy guitars. Their hushed, relaxed vocal combines with the effects-laden guitars for an intoxicating soundscape familiar to fans of artists like Mk.Gee and Yves Tumour. A true highlight is the lugubrious, reverb soaked piano near the middle section, that feels like a long lost Bruce Hornsby piano part that was sampled to the point of being unrecognizable.
