Alison Stiel-The Animal
Alison Stiel’s new single, The Animal, has really caught our attention. Coming off of a series of concerts played throughout the year, Alison has delivered an introspective, soothing folk ballad with this new song. Soft acoustic guitars accompany Alison’s delicate vocals as she sings about overthinking and trying to feel comfortable in her own skin. As the song goes in, the rhythm section is filled out by a drum machine that adds a new twist to a traditional waltz feel, with eerie synth pads adding a nice texture.

The Knocks, Dolores Forever-LOVER

The Knocks’ new single LOVER is a nice pick me up from the last track. Featuring the indie pop duo Dolores Forever, this new single is a funky dance pop banger with a melody that you won’t be able to get out of your head. Dolores Forever takes influences from soft rock icons of the 70s (their Spotify bio reads “Like Fleetwood Mac without the husbands”), as well as dance producers of today such as Fred Again… The production is fun and upbeat, with a lively feel that brings to mind French House producers like Daft Punk and Justice. This track is a good time all around and perfect for a drive to the beach.

Somewhere In Between-Mr. and Mrs.

The final track we’ll be covering is a heartwarming ballad from the husband-wife duo Somewhere in Between. The newest track from the Canadian-American folk duo is a true testament to their love and commitment for each other in adversity. Austin and Deena, who each have successful careers respectively in music and business, with Austin working closely with Benny Blanco as a songwriter and as a partner in the Get Well Soon charity tour; Deena for her part is a successful owner of a yoga studio. The song’s lyrics, with this background in mind, paint a beautiful portrait of how love grows stronger in the face of challenges, with the lyrics serving as a musical rendition of their wedding vows. Somber strings and washed out piano accompany this track for an arrangement that will surely make a tear or two well up.
