The lyrics are heartfelt and longing, with a narrative around a girl who isn’t all the way in the relationship. The lead singer’s voice is hushed and boyish, with a youthful quality reminiscent of Justin Bieber or Lauv.
The production is smooth and uplifting, with a chill pop rock vibe throughout. The presence of soft rock/sophistipop stalwarts like Steely Dan, Michael McDonald and Avalon-era Roxy Music is felt throughout, with a modern feel that calls to mind the 1975 and the later work of Tame Impala. All in all, this track is a smooth pop classic in the making, perfect for a drive to the beach with friends.
