HAPPIE-Shooting Star
HAPPIE’s new song Shooting Star is the perfect summertime slow ballad. New York based indie pop star HAPPIE has continued to deliver a soothing, rich vocal performance on this track. Written in dedication to her father, the lyrics touch on wanting to value as much time as she can with him while she still can and the fears of losing him. One highlight of the arrangement is the slide guitar, which plays a simple yet memorable melody throughout that provides a good motif.

Kan Wakan-IO

Kan Wakan continues to make waves with his new single IO. Coming off of a stream of collaborations with hip hop royalty such as Baby Keem, Thundercat and Moses Sumney, Kan’s new track is a futuristic, groovy track perfect for the club. Kan’s lyrics are especially timely today, warning of a future in which humans are replaced by AI and automation. The track is built upon detuned synths and sub bass that feel like glitching machines. There’s almost a disco feel to the arrangement, particularly the rhythm guitar stabs and syncopated drumming, that calls to mind nu-funk visionaries like Roosevelt, Jordan Rakei and Random Access Memories-era Daft Punk.

Bella Celia-dead ends

Fans of Phoebe Bridgers will love Bella Celia’s new single dead ends. The third single from Connecticut born, DC based singer-songwriter Bella Celia, this track is as lush as it is introspective. The track’s intimate feel is due in part to being produced entirely DIY by Bella herself, with a chill groove that feels like a cross between Clairo and Bonobo. Bella’s soulful vocals give the lyrics a big boost, with a sense of brooding that young people will relate to. Anybody looking for music to help them feel comforted will be in the right place if they put this track on.
