Gareth Dunlop’s new single Go Down Swinging is the perfect pick me up for when you’re feeling down. The latest single from the Irish indie rock band is as motivational as it is catchy, with a vocal melody that recalls classic rock of the 70s and 80s. Fans of bands like Bon Iver and One Republic will appreciate the blend of various different styles into the song. The lead vocal is at once husky and commanding, with a wide range of dynamics.

The production is at once calming and uplifting, oscillating between soothing synthesizers and raucous full band. The percussion, supplied by an 80s Roland drum machine, and soft synth pads feel almost like modern day pop, but lead into distorted guitar chords that almost have a country feel to the playing. The music video adds to the inspirational feel with a young girl learning to record on her own, with a band behind her performing live.
