Flamingos-Poste Rock (EP)

Flamingos’ new release, Poste Rock, hasn’t left our rotation. Serving as the band’s official debut, the EP is a fun introduction that shows that the band really has something to say. The band has a strong soft rock sound, with the intro “Say Diamond” featuring a funky bass line and vibey Fender Rhodes chords that give the track a soulful feel. The track closes with a guitar solo that wouldn’t be remise in an early era Steely Dan track.

The arrangements are very loose and laid back, with a soothing sound throughout the project. I’ll Take the River features a funk rock sound that is as innovative as it is infectious. The lead vocals from Roman Palmer are hushed and carefree, with a quality similar to Julian Casablancas from the Strokes.

Old Crush-Soft Amnesia

The newest single from Old Crush, Soft Amnesia, hasn’t left our rotation. The musical project of Los Angeles born, Berlin based singer and multi instrumentalist Josue Campos, Old Crush is a creative amalgamation of various influences, including hip hop, lofi indie rock and video game soundtracks of the 90s. This song is a chill indie pop tune with a slight psychedelic edge perfect for the summer time. Bluesy, reverb soaked guitars populate the mix, with phased synths and thumpy bass grounding the progression. Campos’ vocals are doubled and feature a slight slapback delay and a tone similar to Kevin Parker of Tame Impala. A real highlight is the keyboard solo near the middle of the song played by a Wurlitzer. Old Crush’s new EP, The Dead Age, which this project is from, should be on the radar of any indie pop lover.
