Fans of Cigarettes After Sex and Arctic Monkeys will love Bearbonez’s new song Crysknife. The California based singer/songwriter’s new track, released in February, draws influence from the washed out, indie ballads of the 2010s, as well as the plot of the movie Dune. The vocals are a harrowed baritone, that croons lyrics that tell a tale of . The vocals immediately feel most similar to late-era David Bowie.

The production is slow, melancholic and atmospheric, with layers upon layers of guitars filling out the progression and supporting Bearbonez’s vocals. The guitars have a distinctly vintage sound, with a reverbed twang that wouldn’t be remised to find in a 60s garage rock song. Similarly to bands like the xx, lead guitar melodies swim throughout and add new tones on top of the vocal harmonies. Buzzing synths swell toward the outdo that give a modern feel to the song.
