Navel Grazr’s new EP, Elegies, is a masterclass in dark indie pop. The New York-based indie pop duo’s new EP, released in April, showcases her gorgeous, rich vocal tone well. The sonics range from moody and downtempo on the opening track “Heads will Roll” to melancholic and upbeat on “Sun Doesn’t Rise”. Anjali is able to conjure so many emotions with her powerful lyrics, that will be sure to pull at the listener’s heartstrings.

The production on the project is a welcome blend of indie rock, 80s new wave and synth pop. Buzzy, bright synthesizers and jangly guitars often fill the mix and give the songs a unique vibe. The track “Two Funerals” features a pumping, driving drum groove that serves to contrast the free flowing, legato guitars, with a crunchy, shredding guitar solo bringing the song home. The final track, “I Know I’ll End up Like You”, is a mellow yet infectious rock ballad that calls to mind artists like Mitski and the xx. Fans of acts like St Vincent, MGMT and Christine and the Queens will love this EP just as much as we do.
