indie underrated

We adore the dynamic on Waiting, the new single by clubdrugs.  The details are accentuated in the immersive music video, one that amplifies the eclectic elements and how they compliment eachother. 

The synth heavy layered production recalls both elements of synthwave and modern dance electronic.  The contrasting vocal parts create cinematic tensions, with her lush emotive delivery offering both seduction and desire in a way that feels assertive.  As if she’s offering that on her own terms, a sort of dominating confident quality familiar to the vixens of 80s new wave.  It’s a product of their counter culture aesthetic, one that found dissent in pop bubblegum bikini babes but quiet favor from men of all statures. 

The band offers that Waiting is a paralyzing love song, a sentiment that suits its dark melodic essence.  For us it’s about yearning to be wanted one way, a reality that may never materialize because relationships only thrive on compromise.
