Ethan Stauffer chronicles Sunday Evening in song on his serene new single.
Beautifully produced, Sunday Evening features momentary cinematic sweeping orchestrating, lush harmonies, and tickling ivories. They swirl around the central construct of voice and guitar, as if to emulate the emotional whiplash of this contentious practice; that conundrum that is rest on the eve of routine plight. It’s that detail that threatens our existential aesthetic.
Sunday evening is the first onslaught, where threatening anxieties infiltrate at dawn of this weekends fresh introspection, all left to stew in anticipation of next weekends emotional recovery. Stauffer offers relatability and some wisdom to inspire trust.
‘… and I’m searching for the right words that don’t need to be said.”
“… every Thursday is Thanksgiving… and every family has its flaws.”
And most potently, “…every day is Sunday evening.”
Because it’s all the same, for better or worse. So if you’re caught in the doldrums, don’t blame the day, ask for help.
Stylistically Sunday Evening recalls the classic songwrtiter aesthetic of James Taylor with some updated indie folk influence.
