Samantha Christine caught our attention with her new album Warm Waters. This melancholy vibe shares in the hurt and vulnerability that launched icon Kurt Cobain. It’s heard in the introductory title track Wait and indulged further on songs like Sport and Copperhead.
The unassuming songstress is more Alice In Chains than Phoebe Bridgers, but her vocal does offer some indie pop sensibility. In that manner her vibe loosely connects with immersive shoegaze projects like Portishead.
What ties those comparisons together is how Christine shares in their penchant for brooding auras. She adds her own progressive dramatic flair and offers a heavier influence of stoner sludge rock. Paired with her dreamy lullaby vocal delivery, Warm Waters is delectable creepy contrast. We adore it.
