If Birthdayboy’s new single, Black Water, hasn’t been on your radar lately, you’re really missing out! The new track from San Diego based “creative survivalists” Birthdayboy really showcases the musical chemistry the group, who are lifelong friends, has in spades. The lead vocals have an innocent and childlike feel to their delivery that compliment the production and lyrical quality well.
The production is smooth and jazzy, with a slight trip hop feel to it. The chord progression revolves around a synthesizer keyboard chord progression that recalls much of the bedroom pop that has been popular in the last decade. Distorted crunchy guitar lines glide through the chorus, with punchy dry drums that play a funky drum loop throughout the song.
