One of our favorite indie underground bands has a new single. Echo Kid recently dropped Mindless Man, and it has not left our rotation. The new single from the Philadelphia based band is their first single since 2022’s notable psych-sludge breakthrough Fever Dream. The track is a trippy Beatles esque track about someone who goes through the motions of life. Echo Kid’s vocals are run through a layer of distortion and recall many of the post Beatles progressive pop stars of the 1970s, most prominently the vocals of Jeff Lynne from ELO.

The production is upbeat and psychedelic. Mindless Man features crunchy guitars, swirling Hammond organs and plucky guitar solos that make their way through the chorus. Halfway through the track, an instrumental jam with choked out guitars strumming a funky chord progression emerges that really adds to the vibe of their song. The production has a very old school vibe to it that recalls the classic rock of the late 60s and 70s. Fans of artists like the Black Keys and early Tame Impala, as well as classic acts like Fleetwood Mac and David Bowie, will love this track.
