Morrison Reed has really caught our attention with his new single, Lavender Dusk. This new single from Reed’s upcoming 2nd album shows off Reed’s softer romantic side well. Reed’s vocals harken back to the late 70s/early 80s with a deadpan, low vocal style reminiscent of post punk and new wave artists like Robert Smith and Lou Reed.
The production is lush and psychedelic, with a retro feel to the arrangement. Reed’s vocals are accompanied by quirky, 70s sounding synths that flutter throughout the production, fuzzy guitars and slushy, phased out drums that make the track feel like you’re in outer space. Reed seems to be calling back to the woozy 70s synth pop of artists like Gary Wright, Gary Wilson and Roxy Music with the production.
