Mari Dangerfield’s new single, Ruins, hasn’t left our rotation. The single, a single from Mari’s new EP Eco-Fever, is an infectious dance track for the bedroom pop era. The music video for the track features Mari navigating the beaches of West London, examining the world in the state that humanity has left it in the age of overconsumption and disregard for the environment. Each song on the EP tackles different issues facing the world, with Fashion Haul touching on the problem of fast fashion and its effects on the world and Eco Fever touching upon climate change and the lack of action by world governments.

Mari’s deep, husky vocals are complimented by production that feels like an updated version of the sophisti pop that dominated the British radio waves in the 80s. A true musical polymath, Mari produces and writes all of her own music, and her talents show with production that feature sparkling synth arpeggios, plonking synth bass and guttural Mellotron strings. The production feels like a mix of new wave by bands like Talk Talk and New Order, by way of the lofi indie of artists like Clairo and Rex Orange County.
