Izzy Pingrey has really caught our attention with her new single, Narcissus. Her second single following “Sick of it” from earlier in the summer, the track is much more reflective and bitter in lyrical content. The track covers on friendship struggles and trying to gain the respect of people who don’t put in effort. The lyrics are based on the Greek tragedy of Narcissus, who is so obsessed with his own appearance he wastes his life away staring at his own reflection, eventually turning into a flower. This track is perfect for those who need to let go of people who don’t respect them or their time.

The production is slow and meditative, with a slight folk pop sound to its arrangement. Acoustic guitars and bells populate the mix and provide a good sonic bed for Pingrey’s vocals, with trippy organs and brushed drums filling in the arrangement in the chorus. A “4 on the floor” kick gives the song a constant rhythm while not taking away from the feeling the song provides. Fans of artists like Olivia Rodrigo and Lana Del Rey will easily find a home for this song in their playlists.
