Peter Lake-Colors of Suspension
Peter Lake’s new single, Color of Suspension, hasn’t left our rotation lately. The track is a creative, progressive blend of styles like soft rock and disco. The track features female vocals from Lake’s friend and collaborator Yousha, which really compliment the dancey rhythms well. The track is based on a story from Lake about a boy who was struggling whom he was mentoring who he bonded with one day by making vases with food coloring. Yousha’s vocals recall the innocence of that day and the boy. The lyrics recall a touching story about helping people who need to get on the right path.
The production is a blend of different styles, with a 70s, soft rock esque acoustic guitar intro that blends with Lake’s hushed vocals well. The track expands to almost a disco style, with pianos, synthesizers and drums playing a sturdy backbeat filling the arrangement. A trumpet part comes in near the end of the track for a sweet melodic touch with a hint of jazz to it.

Friendship Commanders-High Sun
Make sure to check out Friendship Commanders’ new single, High Sun. The third single from their new album, MASS, this track represents an artistic departure for the group. Rather than the heavier, gloomier music the band is normally known for, the track is more of a shoegaze inspired track. Make sure to check out the music video for this track as well, with visuals that show film reels of the band performing, and visuals that recall 60s psychedelia and 90s alt rock. The track is built around sloshing, distorted shoegaze guitars. The vocals are run through a filter of distortion throughout the track and the drums are booming and heavy. This track would be right at home for fans of artists like My Bloody Valentine and Slowdive.

Amellie Lucille-Mess
Amelie Lucille’s debut single has really caught our attention lately. The New York based singer songwriter has really demonstrated a sincere voice in her music from such an early age. Amelie’s vocals are a rich and expressive alto that float around the arrangement. Her vocal styling recalls many of the “sad girl” pop stars that have dominated the waves in the 2010s, most notably Billie Eilish.
Amelie wears her influences on her sleeves, with obvious nods to artists like The Cure, Cocteau Twins and Norah Jones present in this track and the others on her EP. The arrangement is based around acoustic guitars, with ethereal Hammond organ filling the gaps. A live string section adds an extra layer of melodicism to the song as it progresses, recalling the early work of Lana Del Rey.
