You have to check out Lake Nakoma’s newest single, Burying Old Bones. The track, which features Alabama Shakes guitarist Heath Fogg and singer/songwriter Colin Whitman, is a single from the project’s upcoming self titled debut album. The track is a slow folk ballad with hushed, lilted vocals courtesy of Whitman. Whitman’s ethereal, youthful vocals compliment the theme of starting anew and closing the door on the past.
The production is primarily alternative folk, with soft, strummed acoustic guitars serving as the sonic bed, with twangy lap steel floating throughout. Brushed drums pick up towards the chorus, giving the track a country feel. Near the final chorus, what sound like vocal tape loops come into the mix, as well as some arpeggiated synth patterns that wouldn’t be out of place in a Bon Iver song.
