Learning to Dive caught our attention with their new single, Trust in Me. This new track, a collaboration with Bravo Bonez, is a moody trip hop banger with a dark and grimy atmosphere. Bravo Bonez’s vocals provide an angsty nature to the track, which are augmented by what sounds like a talk box in the chorus. The message is one of hope, that there is a light at the end of the tunnel for anyone who has been through gaslighting, which despite the dark sound, is a positive and optimistic message.
The production is multifaceted but cohesive, with dense layers of strings being punctuated by wah wah guitar slides that feel reminiscent of a hip hop sample. The drums are booming and bright, with a feel that recalls 2000s punk and hard rock, and following the hook, a sweet and legato saxophone solo emerges that conveys the hope in the lyrics.
