Kipani’s new track, Better This Way, is a must listen this summer. The lead single off their most recent album, Spoiled Ingrates, Kipani tells stories straight from lead singer Tiffany’s diary in a 14 track project that spans across two parts. The first part, from which this single comes from, details the struggles caused by depression and anxiety, and the second part discusses the healing that undoes such anxieties.
The instrumental compliments Tiffany’s beautiful vocals well, with a slowed down, shuffled waltz feel that is augmented by soft, angelic guitars and piano that provides a good amount of weight. The old school progression kicks off in the chorus of the song with overdriven guitars that play almost a doo wop style riff. The arrangement varies from just vocals and drums in the first verse, to an all out rocker that conveys just how heavy the feelings are on her mind. Indie acts like Phoebe Bridgers and Men I Trust come to mind in terms of the arrangement.
