Toronto based singer-songwriter Sandra Bouza’s delivered a real tear jerker with her new single, The City. This track, a minimalistic piano ballad, reflects on youthful ignorance and how naive she was in her youth. The vocals are at the forefront, with Bouza’s expressive and powerful vocals showcasing the melancholy in this track. Her vocals draw to mind the mid to late 90s balladeers like Sarah McLachlan and Norah Jones.
The production is minimalistic yet lush, with just a piano part accompanying her. The piano is soft in timbre with a texture that recalled the ballads on Lana Del Rey’s 2019 album, Norman F*cking Rockwell!, as well as the work of Neil Young. The track is a gorgeous, heart wrenching piano ballad that will have you reminiscing about past memories.
