Izzy Pingrey really caught our attention with her new single, sick of it. The single, a meditative, chugging ballad about the cycle of young love, is a youthful expression of heartbreak. The lyrics refer to the push and pull of “situationships” that Pingrey and her peers experienced, with Pingrey referring to how bruised her heart was and how tired she is of the games in a relationship. Anybody who has been through heartbreak in the past will surely relate to Pingrey’s honest and vulnerable lyrics. Given her lyrical sincerity combined with her gorgeous vocals, you can definitely tell an Olivia Rodrigo influence in her music.
The production is mainly within the alternative/indie rock, built primarily around light, picked acoustic guitar that has almost a punk feel to it. As the song goes on, it expands to drums, heavy electric guitar and synthesizers that emphasize the melody. In the bridge, there are gorgeous fingerpicked acoustics, with synth pads that swell into the final hook. This song will leave you wondering whether you want to dance or cry to it.
